Jennifer Hudson’s former brother-in-law was found guilty of murdering the singer’s mother, brother and seven-year-old nephew in a grisly killing spree in Chicago in October 2008.

A jury on Friday found William Balfour guilty on three counts of first-degree murder for fatally shooting Hudson’s mom Darnell Donerson, brother Jason Hudson and nephew Julian King.

An emotional Jennifer Hudson took the witness stand in a Chicago court on Monday to open the murder trial against her former brother-in-law, accused of killing Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew in 2008.

The Oscar winner was the first witness to offer testimony in the high-profile case against William Balfour, whom prosecutors say murdered the three victims after allegedly threatening harm against the family on numerous occasions.

Jennifer Hudson has been asked to perform a Whitney Houston tribute at the Grammys on Sunday.

Executive producer Ken Erlich says the show plans to honor the late singer and multi-Grammy winner just one day after her death.

“We’re very saddened, and we don’t want to rush into anything that wouldn’t be respectful,” he told CNN.
