Adam Levine, who’s a coach on “The Voice” when he’s not fronting the band Maroon 5, took a swipe at rival singing competition show, “American Idol.” After talking about his younger brother being gay, Levine tells Out magazine that unlike “The Voice,” where two of its finalists, Beverly McClellan and Vicci Martinez, were open about their sexuality, he feels “American Idol” tries to make its own contestants hide theirs.

Levine blasts, “What’s always pissed me off about ‘Idol’ is wanting to mask that… C’mon. You can’t be publicly gay?”
