“Sully” Wins Box Office For Second Weekend

As Gossip Cop reported, Tom Hanks stars as Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, the real-life pilot who did an emergency landing on the Hudson River after a bird strike in 2009. The Clint Eastwood-directed film opened at number one last weekend. Now it hung on to first place with $22 million.
Blair Witch, a sequel to The Blair Witch Project, debuted in second place with just $9.65 million. Bridget Jones’s Baby, the highly-anticipated third installment in the franchise, also had a disappointing opening with $8.2 million for third place. It didn’t fare much better than Oliver Stone’s Snowden, the biopic about NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden, which opened in fourth place with just $8 million in ticket sales. And at number five was Don’t Breathe, with box office receipts of $5.6 million.
Rounding out the Top 10 were The Bough Breaks, which nabbed sixth place with $5.5 million. Meanwhile, Suicide Squad came in seventh with a box office haul of $4.7 million in its seventh week. The Wild Life secured eighth with $2.65 million, and Kubo And The Two Strings took the ninth position with $2.5 million. Rounding out the Top 10 in the last slot was Pete’s Dragon. It earned $2 million.
