Sugarland Plans Memorial for Fans Who Died in Saturday’s Stage Collapse

Sugarland is planning a memorial for the five fans who died last Saturday when the stage collapsed before their performance at the Indiana State Fair.
Band members Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush made the announcement in a statement this afternoon after taking time to “emotionally process the magnitude and gravity” of the accident.
“We are in the process of planning a private memorial in Indiana, to honor those fans who died,” said the group. “We would first like to hold space so that their families can have time to go through their own services and memorials. Until that time we are holding vigil for them.”
Sugarland plans to be back on stage on Thursday for their scheduled show in Albuquerque.
“We have always celebrated music as a Healer. While music cannot change the events and losses at the Indiana State Fair, it can hopefully serve as a ritual and a balm to provide comfort and facilitate healing in this time of great sorrow,” explains the band.
It was also announced today that Maroon 5 and Train will donate the proceeds from their Thursday concert at the fair to the victims of last weekend’s tragedy.
