CBS Twitter Account WRONGLY Reports Steve Jobs Died

(GettyImages.com)

UPDATE: Steve Jobs has passed away at 56.

————————–

The Twitter account for the CBS web series “What’s Trending” set off an Internet panic when it tweeted that there were reports that Apple Chairman and founder Steve Jobs had died.

But Jobs is NOT dead.

“What’s Trending” deleted the tweet about a minute later, but the rumor had already been propelled into the Twitterverse by some of its 11,000 followers.

The account has since apologized for the false report, tweeting, “Apologies- reports of Steve Job’s death completely unconfirmed. Live on.”

Bad, very bad.

It’s what they call a half apology because they are leaving people to believe it is true but saying it isn’t confirmed. yet.
