Steve Harvey Did NOT Make Miss Universe Mistake Because He’s “Illiterate,” Despite Report
Steve Harvey did NOT accidentally announce the wrong winner of Miss Universe because he’s “illiterate,” despite a mean-spirited webloid report. Gossip Cop can correct this story. We’re told it’s “ridiculous.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Harvey crowned first runner-up Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as Miss Universe, but of course, the real Miss Universe 2015 winner was Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach. And now, MediaTakeOut has fabricated a supposed reason behind his blunder.
The webloid claims that instead of the host reading cue cards during the broadcast, producers were “feeding” Harvey all of his lines through an earpiece because he “can’t read.” The site’s so-called “insider” claims that just when the time came to announce the winner, “There was a malfunction, and Steve had to read the card without assistance.” MediaFakeOut’s dubious “insider” then adds, “I’m not sure that man can read.”
During a press conference after the pageant, Harvey himself admitted to wearing an earpiece during the competition, revealing that there was “a lot of hell going on” in his ear when he announced the wrong name. But at no point did the earpiece break, nor was he being fed lines. Awards and competition show hosts simply wear earpieces so producers can inform them when to go to a commercial break.
Regardless, the webloid’s notion that Harvey’s screw-up was due to him being “illiterate” is both offensive and untrue. A source closely involved in the production of the Miss Universe pageant tells Gossip Cop that Harvey’s mistake had nothing to do with a supposed earpiece malfunction. We’re assured the webloid’s false account of events is simply “ridiculous.”
