Steve Coburn Gives Tearful Apology For California Chrome Rant (VIDEO)
California Chrome lost his bid for the Triple Crown over the weekend, and owner Steve Coburn flipped out during an instantly infamous live TV interview, during which he ranted against the rules and the other horses, some of which had been kept fresh by not running in the earlier races.
He called the Belmont victory by Tonalist the “coward’s way out,” and later compared the situation to a “kid in a wheelchair” being forced to play basketball against able-bodied athletes.
On Monday, he apologized on “Good Morning America.”
“I’m ashamed of myself,” Coburn told Robin Roberts. “I need to apologize to a lot of people.”
He congratulated Tonalist, backtracking from his earlier outrage, declaring, “He deserved to win.”
When Coburn began apSologizing to his horse’s own fans, he broke down and began to cry.
