Donald Sterling’s wife Shelly has agreed to sell the Los Angeles Clippers to Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.

The parties reportedly reached a deal late Thursday night, though it still needs to be approved by at least three quarters of the other 29 owners in the NBA at a yet-to-be scheduled Board of Governors meeting.

But the decision is the biggest step yet in stripping the Sterlings’ ownership of the team following the 80-year-old’s racist comments made in a taped phone conversation.

Ballmer is best known as the ex-CEO of Microsoft.

He was one of several bidders for the franchise, along with David Geffen, who teamed up with Oprah and other investors.

If the deal goes through, it will be the most ever paid for an NBA team.
