Stephen Collins: I’m NOT A “Pedophile” (VIDEO)
Stephen Collins says he’s not a pedophile. The disgraced “7th Heaven” star, who has confessed to molesting three young girls, claims he does “not fit the clinical or dictionary definition” of “pedophile” during his expansive new interview with Katie Couric. Watch the video below.
“A pedophile is someone who is mainly or wholly attracted to children. I’m not. I had a distortion in my thinking where I acted out in those ways,” explains Collins. “But I’m absolutely not attracted, physically or sexually attracted to children. I’m just not.” He goes on to say that a therapist once told him that someone “with that attraction” would have acted “many more times” than Collins did.
The actor continues, “They were terrible [actions], and I regret them deeply, but I was not looking… I don’t look at young women that way. I don’t, and I never did. That may sound incongruous with those actions, but those actions I think had more to do with the kind of distortion in my thinking and need for attention. It was not a desire to have sexual contact with them.”
When Couric asks whether Collins ever had sexual desire for young boys, as implied in an email sent by his estranged wife, he flatly denies it and says she made it up. Asked how he would define his pathology, if it’s NOT pedophilia, Collins says, “I think I’m someone who gave in several times to exhibitionistic urges, someone who had big boundary issues.” Watch the latest clip of the Stephen Collins-Katie Couric interview below, and tell us what you think.
