Celebrities React To President Obama’s 2015 State Of The Union Speech
President Obama gave his 2015 State of the Union speech on Tuesday, the second to last of his presidency. The Commander-in-Chief addressed Congress, as well as notable figures on both sides of the political aisle. The speech discussed issues both domestic and foreign, including the economy, immigration, global warming, and the recent terror attacks in Paris.
As has become the norm, a number of celebrities tweeted reactions to the speech in real-time, some applauding Obama’s words, others criticizing certain remarks, and a few cracking jokes. For instance, Clay Aiken, who lost a North Carolina congressional election in November, praised the President for saying, “If you want somebody who’s gonna get the job done, and done right, HIRE A VETERAN!” But James Woods tweeted, “Is this catastrophe of a President even aware of the existence of the American veteran?”
Billy Eichner observed, “No joke, he said women deserve equal pay and half the audience stayed seated. Astonishing.” Judah Friedlander wrote, “Pay women the same as men & Pay workers enough money to not starve – the radical ideas of Obama. Not sure it will resonate with America.” Larry King tweeted, “#POTUS showing his fighting spirit in #SOTU. Politics aside, he’s bringing it tonight.”
When Obama received applause from Republicans when he said he had no more campaigns to run, and he then shot back, “I know, because I won both of them,” Andy Cohen tweeted, “Obama just smack talked!” Patton Oswalt wrote in response, “BOOM! Oh F*CK YEAH! That was the smoothest, most presidential ‘f*ck you’ i’ve ever seen. #SOTU” And Josh Charles commented, “That was badass. #SOTU #andone.”
Rose McGowan posted a photo comparing Speaker of the House John Boehner to Grumpy Cat. Bill Maher criticized, “Does Boener [sic] have to look like he’s getting a colonoscopy everytime Obama says something good about America? I thought Repubs loved America?” “Hey Mr. President include #Alzheimers with those diseases you mention. It needs funding We need to stop it in it’s tracks now. @BarackObama,” posted Maria Shriver.
Arsenio Hall remarked, “The First Lady looks amazing.” Amy Schumer quipped, “No one can smile with their eyes like Joe Biden.” “Bachelorette” star J.P. Rosenbaum joked, “I keep getting #SOTU and #SYTYCD mixed up.” More seriously, Hal Sparks noted, “First Pres to mention Trans and Bi people in his #SOTU.”
Kathy Griffin told her followers, “R u watching the State of the Union address? As my dad used to say ‘you can’t b*tch n moan unless u pay attention’ #SOTU.” And Cher tweeted after the speech ended, “OMG‼️ PRES.JUST HIT THE BALL OUT OF THE PARK‼️ GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, & ALL THOSE WHO HERE EVEN GOP LEADERS.” Gossip Cop will have updates.
