Stars React To Italy Earthquake: Celebrities Send Prayers, Donations
Celebrities are reacting to the devastating earthquake that hit Italy on Wednesday local time. Stars are now offering prayers on Twitter, and encouraging donations.
More than 100 people are dead after the 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck the central region of the Italian country in the middle of the night. The town of Amatrice was largely wiped out. And with daybreak came a desperate search for more survivors that is still ongoing.
As is often the case with tragedies, celebs are limited in what they can do from afar. But many are making their feelings about the situation known on social media. Lady Gaga, who is of Italian descent, tweeted, “Praying for the people in Italy who are suffering from earthquake. My family will make a donation to help repair these beautiful cities.”
Alyssa Milano was among the first to comment, writing, “Thinking of Italy after the devastating earthquake. Prayers, love, light, peace… being sent.” She went on to encourage Americans abroad to “check in,” and later shared an article on how to help those affected by the natural disaster.
Lindsay Lohan, who currently lives in London, tweeted, “Sending love and blessings.” Former football player Chad Ochocinco said, “Prayers for those in Italy,” while Elijah Wood wrote, “My thoughts and heart are with Italy.” He, too, shared a news story on aiding survivors.
“We are with you, Italy. #ItalyEarthquake,” Ellen DeGeneres posted on her Twitter account. Olivia Wilde said on her page, “Thinking of everyone in Italy affected by the terrible quake.” Paula Abdul wrote, “To the victims of the devastating #ItalyEarthquake ..to their families friends & loved ones: my prayers are w/ you & my heart is for you…” She went on to add, “I’m so grateful for the doctors, nurses, rescue workers, volunteers &ANYONE helping & being of service during this crisis. #ItalyEarthquake.”
Paul Stanley commented, “My prayers and thoughts to all in Italy devastated by this tragic earthquake,” noting, “So much beauty and life lost.” Mischa Barton shared an article warning of future earthquakes, and also wrote, “Such a sad day. My thoughts & prayers are with the victims and families of those affected by the powerful earthquakes in Italy and Myanmar.”
On Instagram, “Pretty Little Liars” star Troian Bellisario shared a photo of the damage, writing in the caption, “Sending love to everyone who was hurt, lost their home, their lives and all the incredible responders who are dedicating theirs to helping. Ti amo Italia.” Back on Twitter, Mark Hoppus said, “Thinking of everyone in Italy and sending best wishes and prayers to you all.” Hailey Baldwin also wrote, “Prayers going out to Italy today.”
Both Michelle Rodriguez and Patricia Arquette shared the same warning article as Barton, with Arquette adding, “Sending prayers out to #Italy – thank you to the brave first responders and good samaritan’s helping.” And designer Jeremy Scott tweeted, “SENDING BIG HUGS TO MY BELOVED ITALY.”
