Twitter turned 10 on Monday, and stars are celebrating the social media site’s birthday. Gossip Cop has rounded up what celebrities are saying about Twitter, as well as what Twitter is noting on its 10th anniversary about several of its famous users. Not surprisingly, the hashtag #LoveTwitter is the top trending topic.
Kerry Washington, who along with the rest of her “Scandal” co-stars live tweets the ABC series, gave the shoutout, “XOXOXOX HAPPY BIRTHDAY @twitter !!!!!!!!! #LoveTwitter.” Twitter, in turn, thanked the actress, writing, “Thank you for bringing @ScandalABC to millions, @kerrywashington! You’ve got Twitter ‘handled.'” The site also gave kudos to Jimmy Kimmel. “Thanks for bringing your humor and witty hashtags to Twitter, @JimmyKimmel. We ‘mean’ it!” they wrote, referencing his “Mean Tweets” segment. Kimmel responded, “Thank you and happy anniversary, keepers of the little blue bird.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger is looking ahead to Twitter’s future. “Happy birthday @twitter. You’re the epitome of the California dream. The first 10 years were fantastic – pumped for the next 10,” he tweeted. Arsenio Hall simply wrote, “Happy 10th birthday!” And Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show” account tweeted, “Happy Birthday @twitter!! Thanks for making us laugh every week!”
Twitter also remembered a number of celebrities who have made an impact with the use of the social media service. “Thank you for sharing #Purpose with us, @justinbieber! You’ve made us all #Beliebers,” they wrote about Justin Bieber. Twitter also honored Lady Gaga for her courage: “Thank you, @LadyGaga for showing us how to be genuine, brave, and honest.” And the social media site similarly expressed gratitude to Taylor Swift. “Thank you, @taylorswift13 for celebrating love and sharing your stage with us every day,” gushed Twitter.
Chris Hemsworth simply wished Twitter, “Happy Birthday,” after the site wrote to him, @chrishemsworth, you ain’t afraid of no ghosts (or spiders)! Can’t wait for what you Tweet next.” Meanwhile, Kris Jenner quoted her first message on Twitter from March 2009, “This is the first time I am twittering and its really easy!
