James Franco Blasted By Spring Breakers 2 Producers For Comments About Sequel
The producers of Spring Breakers 2 blasted James Franco on Thursday for his negative comments regarding the sequel.
Chris and Roberta Hanley call the Spring Breakers star a hypocrite for saying the follow-up will be a “terrible film.”
“Let’s see if I can remember all of the sequels James has done,” Chris Hanley tells Variety, listing The Great and Mighty Oz, Spider-Man, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes as examples.
Hanley adds, “And he’s pushing hard to help set up the Pineapple Express sequel. I guess he thinks only ‘too big to fail studio films’ are the artistically valid ventures.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Franco took to Instagram on Wednesday to slam the producers for making the sequel without his or Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine’s consent.
“The original was wholly Harmony’s creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel,” wrote the actor.
Franco continued, “Can you imagine someone making the sequel to “Taxi Driver” without Scorcese and DeNiro’s consents? Insanity!… I’m speaking up for Harmony and his original vision and for any creative person who cares about preserving artistic integrity.”
