WATCH: ‘SNL’ Parodies ‘The Wiz’ With Ryan Gosling (VIDEO)
NBC’s production of “The Wiz” was parodied on “Saturday Night Live.” In the sketch, not only did “SNL” poke fun of the live show that aired on its network on Thursday, but also inserted the very white Ryan Gosling into the all-black musical. Watch the video below.
In the “SNL” take on “The Wiz,” Leslie Jones played The Wiz, while Sasheer Zamata portrayed Dorothy, Kenan Thompson assumed the role of the Cowardly Lion, Michael Che was the Scarecrow, and Jay Pharoah played the Tin Man. But right as they each told The Wiz what they wanted, including the Tin Man wanting a heart and Dorothy wanting to go home, in rolled a white Scarecrow played by guest host Ryan Gosling.
Gosling’s Scarecrow said he wanted to get back home, too, to West Oz, but was told he was in East Oz. And when he noted he was looking for his friend Dorothy, Zamata said her name was also Dorothy, and asked, “Does your friend know how to do the Whip, Dab, and Nae Nae?” The white Scarecrow admitted he had “no idea what those words are.”
Gosling said that he loves to dance, too, before performing the song, “If I Only Had A Brain.” But The Wiz told him his routine was “corny as hell.” The sketch then had a number of (questionable) jokes about race before they all danced together to “Ease On Down The Road.” Watch the video below, and tell Gossip Cop what you think.
