‘SNL’ Airs Fake “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Screen Tests – WATCH VIDEO
“SNL” aired fake screen tests for the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens with the help of its director J.J. Abrams, and a slew of real stars, including Emma Stone, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Jon Hamm. There were also a lot of hilariously impersonated celebrities as well. Check out the “Saturday Night Live” video below.
It began with J.J. Abrams that with a month until the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, “I thought it would be fun to show you some never before seen screen tests. The first one featured Sofia Vergara (Cecily Strong) and the real Daisy Ridley, who’s in the upcoming film, doing a scene to see if they have chemistry. Vergara instead talks about Minions, saying, “They’re so funny. You can’t understand nothing they say.”
Next is an audition by Shaquile O’Neal (Jay Pharoah) for Chewbacca. That’s followed by “SNL” cast member Beck Bennett as Javier Bardem, who suggests the light saber come shining up from his crotch area. Then the real John Boyega reads the script and breaks out into laughter over “a black stormtrooper?”
We also see “John Mayer” and “Dame Maggie Smith” trying out, as well as the real Emma Stone’s screen test. She auditions for Ridley’s part of Rey, and says, “Before we start, I know that the Star Wars universe is very diverse,” and then notes she was in Aloha and played “a very convincing part-Asian woman.”
There’s also Aidy Bryant trying out as Wynona Judd, Taran Killam as David Beckham, and Bobby Moynihan as a George Lucas. Jay Phaoah then does an absurd Chris Tucker. And that’s follow by the real Michael Buble serenading Ridley by singing, “Another season, another reason, for makin’ wookiee.
Danny DeVito (Moynihan) audition for the round droid role of BB-8. And the actual Jon Hamm makes an appearance too, saying during his screen test that he came up with his own lines, such as, “What’s up, Hamm Solo?” The tryouts end with Leslie Jones showing up for an audition for Star Trek and getting super upset when she finds out the screen rests are for Star Wars.
