‘SNL’ Mocks Pepsi Commercial With Kendall Jenner – WATCH VIDEO
“SNL” mocked the Pepsi commercial it aired (and later pulled) starring Kendall Jenner in which she gave a police officer a Pepsi can in the midst of a protest. Watch the “Saturday Night Live” video below.
In the taped “SNL” tape sketch, the writer and director of the Pepsi ad is about to shoot the commercial when his sister calls and he tells her the premise about “resistance” and Black Lives Matter. But from his side, you can tell the director’s sister told him it was very bad idea. He then speaks to his sister’s husband, and no matter what he tries to explain about the Pepsi ad’s message, the director is informed the commercial shouldn’t be shot. In fact, the director has his sister put a black woman on the phone to discuss the commercial, and once more he’s assured the ad is a mistake.
As Gossip Cop reported, Jenner’s new Pepsi commercial sparked controversy when it first aired on Tuesday, and showed her leaving a photoshoot to join a protest, where she hands a cop a Pepsi can. The ad’s tagline, “Live bolder, live louder, live for now,” was shown above the crowd cheering her on. But, as Gossip Cop noted, there was a tremendous backlash because it appeared Jenner used the “resistance” for commercial purposes. Pepsi tried to defend the ad as being done “in a spirit of harmony,” but ultimately pulled the commercial and apologized for having “missed the mark.”
