‘SNL’ Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin As Santa Claus Video – Watch Cold Open
The cold open of “SNL” mocked Donald Trump and his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Alec Baldwin, who wasn’t on the sketch comedy show last week, returned to play President-elect Trump. Watch the “Saturday Night Live” video below.
In the opening of “SNL,” Putin came out dressed like Santa Claus. He came with a gift, but it was supposed an Elf of the Shelf to spy on Trump. There was also a cameo by John Goodman as Trump’s Secretary of State Rex Tillerson from Exxon. He and Putin discussed making new oil deals. When they mentioned “black crude,” Trump said he knew “black” and “crude” because he’s pals with Kanye West.
Baldwin’s return to “Saturday Night Live” comes after Bryan Cranston helped open the program last week as his “Breaking Bad” character Walter White. The joke was that Trump had tapped White to drug the DEA, based on his experience with drugs and law enforcement. It was only the second time in this season’s 10 shows so far in which Baldwin didn’t portray Trump. The only other time was the weekend after Trump was elected president. That week, Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton opened “SNL” by playing “Hallelujah” on the piano.
Every other episode featured Trump in a number of different settings, including the first, second and third (and final) presidential debate between Trump and Clinton. The two candidates were also mocked days before the election in a “SNL” cold open that had Trump and Clinton being interviewed on CNN, during which she tried to avoid questions about her leaked emails while he kissed a FBI agent, Vladimir Putin, and a KKK member. “SNL” has lampooned Trump’s retweeting of civilians and his campaign promises during other cold opens.
