American Idol Has Surprising Elimination

“American Idol” is officially down to the final four.

And a surprising contestant isn’t one of them.

Skylar Laine was shockingly eliminated on Thursday’s show, after receiving the lowest amount of votes.

That means just Hollie Cavanagh (who was also in the Bottom Two), Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet, and Jessica Sanchez remain in the competition.

    I’m not shocked. I AM still annoyed that ELISE is gone and the “save” got used on Jessica. It’s Joshua and Phillip for me now.

    You are right, Phillip sings every song the same way, has no vocal range, off pitch more then on and out of the top 10 the most uncharismic.

    I’m not bitter. Just annoyed. Jessica can belt, no doubt. And she has the vocal gymnastics and a well trained voice (she’s been doing these competitions on TV since she was 11 yrs old, so she should). I just think Elise has so much more tone, nuance, originality to her voice. And with Elise and some others, there is something informing the song. This is not the case with most 16 yr olds – including JS. Just my opinion, really.

    Can’t you get the fact that the fan-base of eliminated contestants pour their votes to Hollie? It’s all but a number’s game. The turn out of votes doesn’t necessarily reflect the turn out of their record sales. Hello Taylor Hicks, said Chris Daughtry!

    Jessica is the best. For the final 2, my choices are Jessica and Hollie. Joshua is good however, he always screams.

    Hopefully, Joshua will be sent home. Have you seen his reaction when Philip gave him a friendly gesture by putting his arms in his shoulder after their duet. Joshua definitely did not acknowledge the friendly gesture and instead refused that in front of the viewing people. He should be voted off.

    philip tripped this week; he’s soooo boring! but skylar and hollie should have been gone a long time ago. miss you, colton, but you’re also so musically limited my lovely hearthrob. joshua’s screaming is sickening; that’s no music at all. it’s torture!!! and i dare the judges to have an hour of that kind of screaming-that-passes-for-singing and see if they survive it. better yet, make that an hour of hair-pulling and screaming mano-a-mano between joshua and last year’s queen fairy, jacob lusk. jessica will win this one hands down and i’ve no complaints. she may not be able to toss her hair like j.lo and tina turner but her notes are sweet and clear and precise and i can just sigh and gush in quiet admiration.

    Josh: Boy has a big (screechy) voice, but he is so outdated. His style (church screamy style) of singing is so out of touch with today’s contemporary music, and his fashion is so bad . If he were to release an album his genre would not make it.

    And I don’t get why they are trying to see him as this smooth ladies’ man???

    He would not annoy me so much if TPTB was not forcing him down our throat. The judges jumps off their seat each time he sings and the endless standing o’s are now meaningless.

    Possibly. But we don’t know that for sure. Even so, in my opinion Colton still would have been a worthier save than Jessica. Just my opinion.

    Seems to me the hispanics are voting Jessica, the blacks are voting Joshua and the whites are voting for the others mostly. Just like political elections….why can we just vote for the best.

    just to let you know, jessica has no proper vocal training. her experience joining competitions when she was younger hones her. Elise on the other hand, is a music teacher and has formal education. even so Jessica being the contestant that doesn’t connect to the audience is getting so overrated. all the contestants have one or many points in their performances that doesn’t connect to me as an audience at all, too. my two cents.

    Amazing! The best performance Wednesday was, HANDS DOWN, Holly! AND, it was both songs! Joshua and Skyler both “oversing” and Jessica is very good but needs to turn into a 16 year old human. Just my opinion….

    Philip Phillips will win because he is current, charismatic, musical, charming, flirtatious, funny, entertaining and has his own unique style . . . which can compete in today’s market. That’s why he’s never been in the bottom two or three . . . ever. Think about it.

    I think she has amazing talent and stage presence, particularly for a mere 18 years on this planet. She should get a contract out of Nashville and probably will. Having said that, yeah, I agree. That thought has occurred to me more than once and never more so than when she was singing Dusty Springfield. She sings through her nose a lot – ok for country, but overall not a good habit.

    I found him interesting and unique in the beginning, but he pretty much sounds the same on every song now and it’s wearing on me. Also, the facial expressions are bothersome and unattractive. He looks like he’s about to fill his pants or not sure he’s going to make those notes or I don’t know what. I’m over it.

    Yup. That’s the problem when you have kids singing things that they have no idea of their meaning or cultural significance. It loses a lot in the translation. A LOT.

    Skylar is like a firecracker on stage..she will be a hit in the country genre. You could really see Jessica and Hollie were so sad that Skylar left. These girls are so close…they were roomates in the big mansion. When they showed that TMZ skit, it was funny how they showed their dirty clothes all over the room…lol. I think this year all Top 7 are pretty good and I think it’s the Best Top 7 in AI History. I wouldn’t be surprised if all the Top 7 would get record deals. I do think however that Jessica is the “Total Package” of unbelievable raw talent, looks, style, versatility, stage presence, marketability and good wholesome personality. She has the best vocals not only in quality, longest range and perfect pitch. She is also so versatile that she can sing upbeat, r&b, pop, urban, soul, dance, ballad, rock, gospel, oldies, motown and even rap….check her over 200 youtube videos. She is also current and she has the potential to be a legend someday. A girl has to win to be fair and hopefully she breaks that WGWG syndrome for the past 4 wins in a row.

    Yes, I love Skylar. I was hoping Skylar, Joshua, and Jessica would be the final 3. Phillip is like a statue he doesn’t move at all he just stands there with his guitar with his vein popping out his forehead like Harry Potter. Hollie she is talented don’t get me wrong but she seems a little uptight. If she let loose I would love to watch her but her shoulders are always tense and the performance makes me tense.

    Jessica has no personality! Can she sing yes, but the 16 yr old does not yet know how to entertain an audience. Phillip has become so boring! Really liked him in the beginning but he has drawn so predictable as the show has gone on. Absolutley no range and he is surely not Dave Matthews. Josuha has talent and can sing. But I agree with everyone else about his dreadful screaming, enough is enough. As for Holly, she is improving each week and taking Jimmy’s advice. Her personality is becoming more and more evident, and the fact is she can really sing as evidenced this past week by two great songs. I think she can make the final two if she continues to hit it out of the ballpark with her performances. As for Skylar, it was time to go. Her song choices were terrible and her nasal sound was beginning to hurt my ears. Plus her wardrobe was horrible. Last week she looked dreadful and didn’t sound much better. But the greatest problem is the judges!! What Simon gave the show was honesty in his criticism, just like Jimmy gives now. As for Randy, Steven and our spanish beauty, there is little or no hope. Their comments are so empty and often far from correct that most everyone else wonders what they were listening to. All I can say is give me a few million dollars and I bet I can critique the contestants a hell of alot better, if not at least honestly
