Sky Ferreira Fires Back: “I Blame Myself” Video Is NOT Racist
Sky Ferreira is lashing out at critics who called her a racist because of the music video she released on Thursday for “I Blame Myself.”
In the video (below), Ferreira is backed up by a “gang,” comprised of only African-American male dancers. Some people, however, have used the video to call the singer a racist.
On Friday, Ferreira fired back in a lengthy Facebook post, denying she and video are racist. The singer writes, “No, I did not use black back up dancers as ‘props.’ I never have and never will look at any human being as a prop. That’s disgusting.” She explains, “I auditioned a bunch of dancers, all races & my dancers were the best ones.”
Ferreira also shuts down criticism that she’s a “rich little white girl exploiting the black people & the ghetto.” “I wasn’t raised in a ‘white’ house hold & I’m not little & I have financially supported myself since I was 15 years old,” she insists before adding, “I’m a woman, not a f**king little girl.” Ferreira further warns her critics not to “demean the actors & dancers in the video. They are more well spoken & aware than you and I will ever be.”
