Sanne Wevers Defeats Simone Biles In Balance Beam Final At Rio Olympics 2016 (VIDEO)
Simone Biles failed to win a gold medal at the individual balance beam final at the 2016 Rio Olympics on Monday after being defeated by Sanne Wevers of the Netherlands and her teammate Laurie Hernandez. Although a crowd favorite, the 19-year-old gymnastics star flubbed her routine and touched the balance beam, causing her to lose points and having to settle for the bronze medal. Watch the video below.
Biles’ shocking loss comes on the heels of her taking home the gold just one day ago in the vault final. Considered among the greatest gymnasts ever, Biles had been collecting gold at the Rio Olympics until the balance beam. She won her first gold medal in the team all-around final last Tuesday, and was the only member of Team USA to compete in all four of the events, namely the uneven bars, vault, balance beam and floor exercise. She next took home her second gold at the Rio Olympics on Thursday in the individual all-around final, defeating 23 other gymnasts. And, as Gossip Cop noted above, Biles’ third gold at the Rio Olympics came in the individual vault final on Sunday.
Biles, who takes home the bronze in the balance beam, is set to compete on Tuesday for her fourth gold (and final medal of the Rio Olympics) in the floor exercise final. Check out the video below of Simone Biles winning the bronze in the individual balance beam final at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
