Simon Cowell: Zayn Malik Needs To “Get His Head Together” (VIDEO)
Speaking about Malik’s exit at a “Britain’s Got Talent” press appearance, Cowell said, “Look, he’s got to get his head together a little bit. He needs time on his own, as he said, to be a normal 22-year-old, which he’s gonna have.” In a separate interview, the music mogul declined to say whether he will be working with Malik on a solo career, coyly replying, “I can’t give anything away.”
When asked how Malik can be that normal-22-year-old, Cowell acknowledged, “That’s difficult. I’d call that a high-class problem, right?” He insisted, however, that “everyone seems happy at the moment,” and expressed confidence in the future of One Direction. “I’ve always said to all of them, you know, the future’s bright for all of you, depending on what you wanna do,” said the producer. “We always hoped One Direction would stay together for a long time, and my hunch is it still will. They’re just too good for everything to stop now.”
Cowell shot down speculation that there was “animosity” between Malik and the remaining One Direction members, and pointed out that while everyone has “spats,” “You can’t work together for this long if you’re not friends.” And how are Harry, Louis, Liam, and Niall doing now? “They were surprised and shocked, but now they’ve got over it,” Cowell said, before quickly correcting himself. “Well, not over it, but they got used to it, and they’ve been professional. And they’re respecting the fans who [have] turned up to see a great show.”
Gossip Cop recently corrected false rumors that wrongly claimed Cowell planned to launch a reality competition to find a replacement for Malik and that he had banned the singer from following girlfriend Perrie Edwards on her Little Mix tour.
