Sia “Cheap Thrills” “American Idol” Video: Watch Performance!
Sia performed “Cheap Thrills” on “American Idol” on Thursday. Watch below!
A remix of “Cheap Thrills,” featuring Sean Paul, was released last month as the second single from Sia’s latest album, This Is Acting. The record, the star’s seventh, came out in January with the lead single “Alive.” Sia actually co-wrote “Cheap Thrills” for Rihanna, but recorded it as her own song after it was rejected.
As Sia told Rolling Stone in December, “I just couldn’t stop listening to it in the car. For some reason, I really liked listening to it which makes me feel masturbatory, but I wouldn’t normally be just jamming out to my own tunes. There’s something really uplifting about it that put me in a good mood, and I would just pretend it wasn’t me singing. It felt very summer and fun, and I was like, ‘I’ll put that on there.’ ”
It was announced last week that Sia would be a guest mentor for tonight’s “American Idol.” Not only did she advise the remaining contestants, but the aspiring stars were all tasked with singing tracks from the “Sia Songbook,” consisting of songs she has written for herself or other big acts. With the episode having two rounds, Steven Van Zandt was also on hand to give advice for the night’s “Classic Rock” theme.
Sia is actually no stranger to music competitions. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, she sang “Alive” on “The Voice” in December. Check out the full video of the “Idol” performance of “Cheap Thrills” below!
