Shaun White Fails to Medal in Halfpipe Snowboarding at Sochi Winter Olympics
Shaun White failed to earn a medal, finishing in fourth place in the men’s snowboarding halfpipe at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia on Tuesday.
The American’s stunning defeat came after consecutive gold medals in 2006 and 2010 Games.
Iouri Podladtchikov, born in Russia but competing for Switzerland, won the event, with Japanese teenagers Ayumu Hirano and Taku Hiraoka capturing the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
“I’m disappointed,” White said. “I hate the fact I nailed it in practice, but it happens. It’s hard to be consistent.”
He had previously dropped out of the slopestyle event to focus on the halfpipe.
