Paper Gets Rejected With Shaq ‘Engaged’ Story

There’s been rampant speculation in the last 24 hours as to whether Shaquillle O’Neal is engaged to former reality star Nicole “Hoopz” Alexander.
And only Gossip Cop has the answer.
The rumor stems from a column in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, which cited a restaurant owner who was shocked when O’Neal came to his restaurant last week and seemingly proposed.
Sam David, owner of the Sahara Mediterranean Cuisine and Hookah Lounge, told the paper that the superstar athlete showed up around closing time with three women and a man, though David couldn’t identify anyone other than O’Neal.
“I think he may have proposed to his girlfriend,” the paper quotes David as saying. “He brought a chair into the middle of the dance floor and he put a ring on her finger.”
Gossip Cop reached out to O’Neal’s rep, who told us the engagement rumors are “not accurate.”
Repeat: He is not engaged.
When asked for a comment, the Post-Dispatch writer noted that she “did not say he’s engaged,” but simply shared what the restaurant owner thought he witnessed. She also acknowledged she didn’t reach out to O’Neal’s rep to fact-check David’s claim.
We’re calling a foul on this one.
