Seth MacFarlane As Oscars Host: Love Or Hate Him?

OSCARS

(GettyImages.com)

Seth MacFarlane hosted the Oscars on Sunday, and to say opinion was split on his performance is an understatement.

Much like “Family Guy,” Ted, and his other comedic work, observers were polarized, either loving his irreverent and often offensive jokes — or calling him out as a smug hack.

Even celebs watching at home were split on MacFarlane.

Julianne Hough tweeted, “I love @SethMacFarlane he is FANTASTIC :) love you…. #call me ;) #Oscars.”

“Enjoying the Oscars with @SethMacFarlane hosting. Best year yet,” wrote Peter Facinelli.

David Spade was less than impressed with the opening.

“Are they still gonna do the awards part or is that gonna be announced later online. #letsmoveitalong #oscars,” tweeted the comedian.

Take a look again at his 15-minute opening below.

The question is: How did you like MacFarlane’s hosting job?

Do you think he should be asked back?

I didn’t love it or hate it. I guess I was indifferent. He lived up to his expectation of with to be mediocre (reference to the opening).

I thought he was excellent and this was by far the best Oscars show in a long time. the We Saw Your Boobs was the best! that and Jennifer Lawrence’s win!

  • huh

i like david spade but i find it funny that out of the people listed there it was a fellow comedian that wasn’t cool with the comedian host.

  • p.s.

i think seth has a right still to be smug. i mean i still can’t believe it. fox cancelled family guy a few times back in the day. brought it back when it did well in reruns on another network YEARS later and has three shows of his on sunday night. love the shows or hate them you can’t deny giving the guy some bragging rights for this.

  • WarningU2

The night was strained and flat. Didn’t enjoy him as host at all. I went to bed after the “I saw your boobs”, which was childish.

  • Regina1180

I liked him as host. He knew he had no business being up there and he embraced it. The recorded bits were funnier because Seth isn’t a stand-up kind of guy.

I’m so tired of the Chris Brown and Rihanna jokes. The young man was 19 years old, when the Rihanna thing happened. Rihanna has forgiven him. It didn’t happen to us. Please let it go.I didn’t hear any Charlie Sheen jokes on his attacks on women. Charlie Sheen has a long history of violence towards women. Example 2009 Brooke Mueller on Christmas day, he received probation and rehab. Kelly Preston shot in the arm 1991 by mistake, Brittany Ashland 1996. I like Charles Sheen as a actor. I don’t think any of this stuff is funny. Please stop with the jokes. Charlie Sheen gets to move on let Chris Brown do the same

I found the boob song entertaining and funny; some women in the audience seemed annoyed. Perhaps a better sense of humor would be good? Much worse is said in celebrity roasts.

  • Princess

I thought he was hysterical! :D

  • Calligh

That song “we saw your boob”, awesome, I thought he did a fab job

  • Brittney

Loved him, probably the only reason I watched more tuan a few minutes. It felt less stuffy and as a younger person I related more.

    Worst host ever!

    Hi -

I tell you what. Seth MacFarlane is already NOT on the A-list. His featherweight delivery only appealed to those who are featherweight with him. Those of heavyweight mindsets knocked out Seth’s crass and insensitive stabs at humor. He failed to rise to the occasion.
Instead he went low in content. And I’m not just expressing about the Chris Brown/ Rihanna issue that Seth mentioned. Other aspects of Seth’s delivery were foul, as well.

For real, Seth MacFarlane needs to apologize. Whether he will or not won’t stop heavyweights – as we blow off his featherweight a$$.

And as for Seth’s listing as a non A-lister, GOD told me that Chris Brown and
Rihanna are on the G-list. G for GOD. They are diamonds in the rough and
gold in process. Who will do the masterful finishing touches on them? The Lord, and
then Chris and Rihanna will be on the H list. H for heaven.

It’s in Seth MacFarlane’s best interest to get off the D list. D for devil – or
for sure he’ll remain on the other H list.
    H for hell.

Lets face it, this is basically a fashion show where over pampered celebrities have their egos stroked and soothed. It is also a promotion for movies to make more millions for executives to live in high style while feigning concern for the poor.

I think he did a good job, he made me laugh and he kept it moving. The Ocars is a long show and you need to keep it light and he did a good job.

  • Chloe

I think that was part of the act…they knew he was going to sing that song. The camera went to all the leading actors and they all seemed to act a little insulted. But, you can tell it was part of the act….I mean Charlize danced in the opening act. They don’t care you saw their boobs. LOL!

Absolute total failure, witless, juvenile and abysmally dull. Easily the worst host since David “Uma/Oprah” Letterman. And the production was lousy, too; cheap and rushed.

  • robjh1

    Hated it!

  • ava

The worst Oscar host ever award goes to ………Seth McFarland by a landslide!!!!!

  • Melly5*

I seriously love the Oscars – never miss it and apart from the Letterman year, – worst show ever. It was as though it had been hijacked by the teenage love child of Peter Brady and Maree Osmond. Dull, self indulgent crud. Why not get Stiffler to host next year and throw in a few MILF jokes.

  • seriously?

for crying out loud haters get over it! he’s a comedian! what did you expect? for him to kiss everyone’s ass in a pleasant manner? you’d have to be living under a rock to not know his brand of humor. if you wanted to watch the oscars but hate seth all you had to do was record and fast forward to all the presenters. that’s it. get over it. jeez.

  • Me

    You’re a nut!

  • Cory

Most people are so easily offended now to the point it’s ridiculous. Social media makes it so easy to offend people on a grand scale, and it happens all the time. Why should this be any different? Cause he’s on tv? He’s just a man and he’s the creator of Family Guy. What did anyone expect… His humour is brilliant and it’s the reason why Family Guy is so dang popular. People need to calm down, get off the internet, and enjoy some fresh air. /peace

  • Guest Account

    He was extremely mediocre

  • Vanessa

To all of you who didnt like him, you all clearly do NOT have a sense of humor. he did great!

  • Nic Martin

More like the best host ever! He sang, he danced, he joked, and he make fun of a bunch of self-absorbed millionaire who attend the show simply to boost their ego.

  • Nic Martin

By far the best Oscars I have seen in years. That opening monologue was priceless.
