Selena Gomez Won’t Have Girl Squad On Revival Tour: “I’m Not Taylor Swift!”
As Gossip Cop has reported, Gomez’s new tour is set to launch on Friday, and the singer did an interview with Entertainment Weekly to discuss what fans can expect from the run of concerts. Specifically asked if she’ll “have a parade of special guests” like Swift, Gomez seemed to indicate that nothing like that is in the works. But is it out of the question entirely?
Gomez tells the magazine, “I made a joke about this [when] Taylor was in the room, and she looked at me like, ‘You should totally do that!’ I was like, ‘I can’t have all those people come on my stage!’ She’s like, ‘Why not?’ ‘Because I’m not Taylor Swift!'”
And when the interviewer goes on to insist that the former child star could “totally” pull it off, Gomez responds, “I think I have a different everything about me.” She explains, “I’ve worked for my whole career, and I’ve always wanted it to be about that.”
“I’ve been in so many situations where it’s like, ‘Oh, you’re friends with this person? You’re with that person?’ All this credibility sh*t that drives me crazy,” she says. “I love being able to work with other artists I admire, but I have a lot to do on my own before I am willing to make it all about embracing other people.”
The “Revival Tour” kicks off tonight at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, just days after Gomez and Swift attended the Met Gala together. The concerts are slated to go through December with three shows in Mexico to close it out.
