Selena Gomez Facebook Hacker Sentenced to 12 Months Behind Bars

A British man who hacked Selena Gomez’s Facebook page last year has been sentenced to 12 months in jail.

In February, Gareth Crosskey was arrested and charged for the January 2011 hacking incident, in which he illegally gained access to Gomez’s account after posing as her stepfather Brian Teefey and began manipulating her Facebook page.

Crosskey reportedly wrote “Justin Bieber sucks!” as “Gomez” and allegedly posted a video to YouTube showing him editing the pop star’s profile.

Prosecutors say he also posted private correspondence between Gomez and Demi Lovato and threatened to release messages between Gomez and Bieber.

Crosskey later pleaded guilty to offenses under the UK’s Computer Misuse Act and has now been jailed.

British authorities said punishment “should act as a deterrent to any individuals thinking of participating in this type of criminal activity.”

Oh jesus…government is getting out of control, this is considered crime? Writing JB sucks on a facebook page. A year in jail? Go get a real problem, fucking pathetic that funding from the British people goes to jailing people for this shit. The US is no better, tax dollars wasted on petty, silly mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes, just don’t always get caught.

wow a whole year for that?

  • Arcachnar

Selena only has one Facebook. She do not have a personal one. Only one for the fans.

I disagree. Hacking is a cyber crime. Anyone who break this law, will get this kind of punishment. This guy did more than writing ‘Bieber sucks’. In case of someone’s privacy.

Mistakes? What do you mean, if I may ask?

do you know hacking is a crime right?

Too long. Seriously a crime such as hacking into a person’s facebook account shouldn’t be more then a $500 dollar fine.

If this had happened to anyone except a celebrity the punishment would never be so high. All this proves is that if you have enough money you will be favored by the court. Community service or a fine would have been a fair punishment. We have murderers and rapists walking the street but yet they will put someone in jail for a year, over something as petty as this. Yes it may be a crime to hack into someones Facebook, but did this man blackmail anyone or steal money? This is not justice it’s just making an example of someone.

Facebook hacker sentenced to a year in jail; yet Dharun Ravi the Rutgers convicted felon gets 30 days in jail. What a legal system.

her personal facebook and i know because im friends with him XD

There’s no point in discussing this further. If you think anyone should lose a year of their life over Facebook then my worst fears about the future of our country are confirmed. Hopefully people who have hearts, and understand that we all make mistakes at one point or another (INSERT WHATEVER YOU DID HERE, YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN), outnumber the likes of you.
