Selena Gomez and The Weeknd are not engaged, despite one of this week’s new tabloids deceptively teasing on its cover that they’re headed down the aisle. But the story is a bait-and-switch, and Gossip Cop can expose the outlet’s attempt to dupe readers.

A report featured on the cover of the latest issue of OK! blares a headline reading, “Selena & The Weeknd Engaged! How He Proposed.” Only, the accompanying article inside the magazine conveniently changes the headline to say with a question mark, “Selena & The Weeknd: Engaged?” And the phony report makes no mention of the supposed proposal that’s asserted on the cover, but instead contends that the R&B singer simply expressed his love for his girlfriend at Coachella last month.

A supposed “source” tells the magazine that The Weeknd said to Gomez “he could see himself spending the rest of his life with her” and believes they’re “soul mates.” Of course, this is not the equivalent of getting down on one knee and proposing marriage with a diamond ring, despite the tabloid’s cover making it appear as if that had actually occurred.

OK! is seemingly attempting to trick consumers into shelling out $5.99 for the magazine by printing a sensationalized cover that doesn’t match the actual content. Of course, Gossip Cop has repeatedly called out the tabloid for publishing fake news about Gomez, so this bait-and-switch attempt isn’t too surprising. In fact, we previously busted the outlet for falsely claiming Gomez was feuding with Taylor Swift. Gossip Cop also debunked the publication’s tall tale about Gomez considering liposuction. This latest report involving The Weeknd is similarly deceitful.
