Sean Price Dead: Celebrities Mourn Legendary Emcee — See Twitter Tributes
Celebrities are mourning legendary emcee Sean Price, who was found dead on Saturday. He was 43.
In a statement, reps from Price’s record label say, “It is with beyond a heavy heart that Duck Down Music is sadly confirming that Sean Price passed away early this morning in his Brooklyn apartment, Saturday, August 8th, 2015. The cause of death is currently unknown, but it was reported that he died in his sleep. He’s survived by his wife, and his three children.”
Price was a rare figure in the hip-hop community, as he was seemingly beloved by everyone. Also known as “Ruckus,” “Ruck,” and “Gray Hulk,” Price was best known for being part of both Heltah Skeltah and Boot Camp Clik, although he also worked individually as a rapper under his given name. His career lasted more than two decades.
Now a number of famous admirers are sharing their grief on social media. “Sean Price went from being a childhood hero of mine to a great friend. He was the most competitive MC I’ve ever met & kept me on my game,” wrote Talib Kweli on Twitter. “I send my love to my Duck Down family, Boot Camp family, Decep family, Team Homi family #RIPSeanPrice one of the absolute greats.”
“Rest In Power Sean Price,” tweeted Isaiah Washington, while Russell Simmons said, “Prayers to the duck down family. Sorry to hear about this…” De La Soul collectively posted on Twitter and Instagram, “Our condolences go out to the family of Sean Price… ‘To him we belong and to him we shall return’ Rest In Peace.” Using his nickmame, Charlamagne Tha God wrote, “RIP Gray Hulk. Sean Price.” And Mark Lamont Hill said, “RIP to Sean Price. Another hip-hop legend gone too soon.”
He went on in a second message, “It’s crazy. @seanprice was just tweeting yesterday. This is so stunning. And incredibly sad.” Indeed, Price sent more than a dozen tweets on Friday, talking about everything from music to movies. Gossip Cop’s thoughts are with Price’s family and friends at this difficult time.
