Sean Penn: “The Whole F***ing World” Abandoned Haiti

(GettyImages.com)

Sean Penn is as devoted to Haiti as ever — but he’s calling out all those he says abandoned the country in its ongoing time of need.

Speaking at a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival on Friday, Penn reportedly targeted the media outlets in attendance, saying, “It’s not only celebrities who went for a day.”

“It’s the whole f***ng world,” he continued. “It’s all of you.”

Penn, along with model Petra Nemcova and director Paul Haggis, is hosting an official Cannes benefit for the earthquake-ravaged country on Friday night.

The actor said the progress made thus far in improving the region has shown “the very tangible success story that Haiti can be.”

At the same time, however, he criticized those who see the issue as being played out.

“The reason we have Haiti fatigue is because there was never a commitment in the first place,” Penn said.

The movie star is likely to get some Hollywood support at his fundraiser called “Haiti: Cannes Carnival.”

Gerard Butler, Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith and David Schwimmer are among the stars expected to attend, reports The Wrap.

Not everyone has to devote themselves to the same cause as Sean Penn.

It’s called “life goes on.” Some people think everyone should still be focused on New Orleans, some people think everyone should still be focused on Japan’s tsunami area. But, eventually, most everyone just goes back to focusing on their own lives.

Well considering how the USA has plenty of problems I think we should all concentrate on that instead of another country

I think there is “Haiti Fatigue” because the reality of Haiti and places like it (Afghanistan, anyone?) is that no matter how much time, effort and money you pour into it, nothing improves and nothing changes. They seem incapable of helping themselves or even wanting to. Friends who have gone down to help have left in frustration because they spend days and weeks trying to rebuild only to have the construction pillaged when they returned the next day, supplies stolen and sold on the black market for exhorbitant prices by former military and police. Appalling corruption in the governmental system. On and on… They might be better served at this point to just relocate the entire population, pave it over and be done with it.

the only one that get the wose part are the kids that have none to care about them.. so I don´t undertands how people can just say that they are tired of helping.. because haitian´s children don´t get tired of suffer..

  • Krissu

There are suffering children everywhere. Haiti, Africa, North Korea, even America. And they all need help. America is giving more aid then any other country but even here are limits. Why can’t other countries pitch in?

Send that communist weirdo there to save the world. I am so sick of him and all the bleeding heart leftist fanitcs from Weirdowood. As if the rest of us are heart less and do not care. We do. But we can do only so much.

I’d think with the ammount of money I give to haiti through my tax dollars it should be getting better. maybe we should try to help haiti by putting more accountability to the haitian government than to keep throwing money at the situation. Believe it or not money doesn’t fix everything.
