Selena Gomez Thanks Fans After Tragedy, Reveals Sister Was Named ‘Scarlett Teefey’

Selena Gomez has been largely absent from the public eye in recent days, following the sad news that her mother, Mandy Dawn Cornett, had suffered a miscarriage.

Just moments ago, though, the singer posted a message to her millions of fans to express gratitude for their support.

“Belated Merry Christmas everybody.. I can’t thank you enough for all of your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate every one of you.. I love you all so much and we hope you and your family had a beautiful Christmas!” writes Gomez.

She signs the note, “Love, Me, Momma, Brian and our guardian angel Scarlett.”

Gomez’s enormous legion of fans quickly made “Scarlett Teefey” a trending topic on Twitter.

The baby was to be the first child of Cornett’s and Gomez’s stepdad, Brian Teefey, who got married when Gomez was 14 years old.

    Perhaps it is the name they had already decided upon for the child they were expecting. All people grieve differently and your remark shows that you would probably be an insensitive individual who felt the loss of an unborn child is of no concern.
    As for Selena and her family, they felt devastated by the loss of this yet to be born individual and chose to refer to her by name. God bless them and hold them close in this time of grief.

    Poor thing. I think 1 in four pregnancies ends in m/c anyway. Selena’s mom is likely what they consider “advanced maternal age” and her risk is significantly higher. Perhaps waiting until the next pregnancy hits 18-20 weeks will protect them from having to grieve in public. It must be that much harder to have to see it plastered on tabloids and online.

    Apparently Mandy was only 2 months into her pregnancy when Selena announced to the world via twitter that she was going to be a big sister. I can’t understand why they would announce so early, as after the 3 month mark, the baby is USUALLY out of the danger zone. But my thoughts and prayers are with them anyways :) xoxo
