Scarlett Johansson: It’s “Disappointing” Being Highest-Grossing Actress Of All Time
Scarlett Johansson admitted in a new interview that it’s somewhat “disappointing” being the highest-grossing actress of all time, seeing that she’s the only woman who made the top 10 list of box office earners. Watch the video below!
Thanks in part to her roles in the Avengers franchise and a slew of other hits, Johansson’s films have grossed more than $3.3 billion, making her the top earning actress ever and 10th overall. The next actress on the list is Cameron Diaz in the number 19 spot, while only nine women total made the top 50.
During a recent interview with Extra at the Gene Siskel Film Center’s annual gala in Chicago, where Johansson received the Renaissance Award, the actress discussed her honor. “It’s exciting to be the only woman in this category,” said Johansson, before noting, “It’s kind of disappointing actually to be the only woman in this category. That was a little bit of a surprise to me.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Johansson told Cosmopolitan earlier this year that it “feels a little obnoxious” for her to criticize the wage discrepancy between actors and actresses considering that she’s one of Hollywood’s high-paid movie stars, male or female. However, the actress went on to note that she’s open to “addressing [gender equality] as a larger problem,” adding, “It’s part of a larger conversation about feminism in general.”
