Scarlett Johansson Invited to Marine Corps Ball + Her Bubbly Response

VIDEO

(YouTube)

Scarlett Johansson is the latest celeb to be invited via YouTube to the Marine Corps Ball on November 11.

First, Mila Kunis was asked and accepted. Then Justin Timberlake said yes.

Shortly thereafter, Betty White, was asked, but said she couldn’t go.

Miley Cyrus also received a YouTube invitation.

Now Johansson’s invite comes courtesy of Sgt. Dustin Williams.

In a video, accompanied by a soundtrack of “Eye of the Tiger” (as Williams dresses) and “Stayin’ Alive” (as he struts out of his barracks), the Marine sergeant says he thought about who he wanted to take, and Johansson was his choice (cue Percy Sledge’s “When a Man Loves a Woman” track).

Williams even had a photo of Johansson holding a glass of champagne inserted into his video.

But sadly, Johansson declined.

Still, the actress said in a statement: “I feel incredibly honored to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams. Not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for filmmaking.”

She added, “Unfortunately due to prior commitments I will not be able to attend the Ball with you this year but I am sending you a case of Moet and Chandon with gratitude. In my absence, I raise a glass to you and all the men and women of the U.S. Marine Corps, past and present, in thanks for your continued commitment to preserving the safety of our nation. –  Scarlett”

I thought his was the best yet lol

this is getting so freaking annoying…shouldn’t these people be working? do they have that much time on their hands? i support our troops as many of my girlfriends date those who are overseas and i know how hard is it for them but at the same time these people signed up for a job and while it is a noble job that does not give them the right to try and corner these celebs into going out with them…this is getting out of hand here.

The Mila Kunis invite was cute and sweet. It should have stopped there. But because she said yes, and Justin said yes, everybody and thier mother are going to make these videos. I’m over it already.

  • back off twilight

you probably have a noble job too… 9-5, M-F. Marines and our Armed Forces around the world get time off, days they don’t have to work. This could be a Sunday morning. how bout you back off and realize that when you’re willing to put your life on the line and sacrifice your life for the sake of your country’s protection and safety, you can take the damn Pope to the Marine Corps Ball. not to mention Scarlett said no… so at the end of the day, Sgt. Williams will have to find someone else. Calm yourself.

oh please these people sign up to join the armed military force no one makes them so lets just stop that right there. and i am calm stating my opinion you are the one who was so worked up by what i said that you felt the need to respond to me. so how about you back the fuck off and take a chill pill

Nowhere in Back Off Twilight’s post does it say that military men and women are coerced into doing their jobs, in fact she actually states the exact opposite, saying that they are “willing” to do an extremely dangerous job. Regardless of what job they do are you banning these people from having a little bit of silly fun? Is a surgeon never allowed to relax? Can teachers never take days off? Of course not, so why do you have a problem with marines filling their spare time with a bit of harmless amusement, especially after doing an extremely stressful job in a place where entertainment is limited? I suggest you read through your posts again and see how you put yourself across. “F**k off and take a chill pill”? Could you really be more aggressive and petulent?

I don’t think they are trying to “corner” anybody into anything, Mila Kunis seemed amused and flattered by the invite; I’m sure she wil have fun with it and the free publicity doesn’t hurt either. Yes, not all celebs are going to be able to or want to go and as we’ve seen they can simply thank the marines for the kind invite and politely decline – same as any other offer of a date that you wish to deny. No need to go getting angry and accusing people of maliciously conspiring to force a person to do something against their will. Surely that’s the thing that is actually tiring here?

I guess you work 24 hours a day 7 days a week? =/ Don’t be a dick, they get time off as well just like normal people. This could have been done on a day off or a break between going out into the field. I don’t think anyone but them understands how high stressed being there is, so they do whatever they can to blow off steam and have some fun. Take a chill pill.

Yes I completely agree! Shouldn’t they be working? WTF Everyone gets time off like any other job. Stupid ignorant people like you is what people have a problem with. Oh ya, just so you know this is coming from a female in the Army.

Military life isn’t easy. They may have a day off but it’s from long period of time, depending on what department they are in the military
