Everybody Loves Raymond Star Sawyer Sweeten Commits Suicide At 19
Sawyer Sweeten, who played one of Ray Romano‘s twin sons on “Everybody Loves Raymond,” committed suicide on Thursday, Gossip Cop confirms. Sweeten was 19. (He’s pictured on the left side with his brother at a celebration for the show back in 2004.)
Sweeten played Geoffrey Barone while his twin brother Sullivan played Michael Barone on the hit series, which ran from 1996-2005. Their real-life sister Madylin starred as Ally Barone. We’re told Sweeten was back home in Texas when, at one point, he went outside the house and shot himself in the head. Gossip Cop hears the family, not surprisingly, is “devastated” and “shattered.”
Madylin says in a statement to Gossip Cop, “This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred. We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday. At this sensitive time, our family requests privacy and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love.”
Romano says in his own statement, “I’m shocked, and terribly saddened, by the news about Sawyer. He was a wonderful and sweet kid to be around. Just a great energy whenever he was there. My heart breaks for him, his family, and his friends during this very difficult time.” And Patricia Heaton tweets, “Sawyer Sweeten was a funny and exceptionally bright young man. He is gone from us far too soon.”
The young actor’s last known credit was “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Sweeten also appeared in the 2002 film Frank McKlusky, C.I., in which he and his brother shared the role of “Young Frank.” And before that, the Sweeten twins did one episode of “Even Stevens.” Sweeten was just 16 months old when he and his brother Sullivan began working on “Everybody Loves Raymond.”
Gossip Cop has reached out to other cast members from “Everybody Love Raymond” for comments and condolences. We will update as more information emerges about Sweeten and his tragic end. The news of Sweeten’s death was first reported by RadarOnline.
