Truth rating: 10

Sawyer Fredericks, 15, shocked the panel on “The Voice” season 8 premiere on Monday, getting all the coaches to turn around and a standing ovation. Watch below!

The homeschooled teenager, who revealed he lives on an 88-acre farm, chose the “really old standard” “I’m A Man Of Constant Sorrow” for his blind audition. Adam Levine, Pharrell, and Christina Aguilera, who is back on the NBC competition as a coach for the first time since season 5, turned around almost immediately. Blake Shelton later followed, whispering, “I gotta do it.”

Levine, who went the entire two-hour episode without having any contestant choose him as his or her coach, told Fredericks, “I promise you, you’re not going anywhere until you’re the last person standing in this competition… Go with the person who wants to propel you all the way to the finish line.” Aguilera was the next to plead with the teen, even bizarrely saying, “We have to be friends. We have to be buddies. We have to be roommates. We have to do this together.”

“You are a legend in your own right,” she went on, prompting Shelton to make fun of both her and Levine. He praised Fredericks’ for his “distorted bada** awesome sound,” before saying he didn’t “want to beg and grovel like these other adults up here.” Pharrell was much calmer, but no less passionate, saying, “As soon as you started, it actually took me to another time. This is your destiny.”

He continued, “I would love to have you on my team but I’m so proud to be on his show, because even if you don’t end up on my team, I still get to watch this amazing thing happen.” Well, Pharrell won’t have to sit back, as he’ll get to work with Fredericks directly. The aspiring singer chose him as his coach. Sadly, Levine still has NO contestants on his team. Check out the video below. What do you think of Fredericks’ audition?
