Sarah Hyland Alleges Matt Prokop Choked Her, Gets Restraining Order Against Ex
Sarah Hyland has obtained a restraining order against ex-boyfriend Matt Prokop after alleging that he choked her.
As Gossip Cop reported, the couple of five years split in August, and court documents now claim Hyland enlisted her “Modern Family” mom Julie Bowen to help her get out of the allegedly abusive relationship.
In the petition for Hyland’s stay-away order, the actress claims Prokop abused her verbally and physically for the last four years of the relationship.
She specifically cites one incident in May, in which Prokop allegedly choked her after becoming upset by her outfit, pinning her against a car by her throat and calling her a “c*nt.”
“His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak. I was scared and in fear for my life,” Hyland reportedly wrote in her declaration, further saying she was left with a throat so sore that her voice was impacted.
Hyland asked Bowen and others to help her “peacefully end the relationship,” and even bought a plane ticket for Prokop — who lived with her — to return to his native Texas.
But when Prokop saw the intervention, he allegedly freaked, with the documents claiming the actor “ran outside to the backyard and began screaming.”
Hyland accuses Prokop of then throwing a lighter at her, and Bowen reportedly insisted Hyland leave at that moment, believing she was in danger.
The TV star, who says Prokop also threatened to burn down her home and make it so she never saw her dog again, further alleges in her petition that he “relentlessly bombarded me with vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails including his own suicide threats” following the breakup.
And while Propkop reportedly entered rehab in August, she was encouraged by the facility’s director to get a restraining order against him in advance of his release this week, due to the risk of his current mental state.
The temporary order requires Prokop stay 100 yards away from her and her dog, reports TMZ.
A lawyer for Hyland says in a statement, “On September 19, 2014, Ms. Hyland obtained a Domestic Violence Temporary Restraining Order against Matthew Prokop. The documents filed speak for themselves. Out of respect for the court, the process and all parties, I have advised Ms. Hyland not to comment on the matter. We request that you respect the parties’ privacy during this time.”
