Sara Ramirez Comes Out As Bisexual And Queer
Sara Ramirez came out as bisexual and queer on Saturday. The “Grey’s Anatomy” star shared her sexual orientation and gender identity in a speech at the 40 To None Summit in Los Angeles.
Ramirez told the audience, “So many of our youth experiencing homelessness are youth whose lives touch on many intersections, whether they be gender identity, gender expression, race, class, sexual orientation, religion, citizenship status.
She continued, “And because of the intersections that exist in my own life — woman, multiracial woman, woman of color, queer, bisexual, Mexican-Irish American, immigrant, and raised by families heavily rooted in Catholicism on both my Mexican & Irish sides — I am deeply invested in projects that allow our youth’s voices to be heard, and that support our youth in owning their own complex narratives so that we can show up for them in the ways they need us to.”
Following the appearance, Ramirez posted the quote on Twitter and Instagram. She also wrote, “#40ToNoneSummit #SpeakingMyTruth! Will post full video of speech soon! #ThankYou @TrueColorsFund #WomanOfColor #Bisexual #Queer #Immigrant.” And in another tweet, the TV star said,”#ThankYou @TrueColorsFund 4 the work you do 2 end #LGBTQ #YouthHomelessness & your support #Woman #Latinx #Bisexual #Intersectionality.”
Ramirez, who played the bisexual Callie on Grey’s Anatomy until last season, is wed to Ryan DeBolt, whom she married in 2012. On social media, the actress’ coming out is being met by enthusiastically positive feedback from fans. See the post below.
