In the March issue of EbonySamuel L. Jackson gives an outspoken interview in which he says that he supported President Obama because of his race.

“I voted for Barack because he was black,” Jackson is quoted by the New York Post as saying in the magazine.

He continues, “‘Cuz that’s what other folks vote for other people – because they look like them.”

Jackson explains, “That’s American politics, pure and simple. [Obama's] message didn’t mean [bleep] to me. In the end, he’s a politician. I just hoped he would do some of what he said he was gonna do.”

“I know politicians say [bleep]; they lie. ‘Cuz they want to get elected,” adds the Oscar nominated actor.

Truly pathetic that the people of this country would vote solely on a skin color instead of an ability to run and improve this country. I suspect that most all other African Americans and Whites did the same thing also to be politically correct. Am I reading between the lines that Mr. Jackson is regretting his decesion? I will give him respect and credit for admitting why he did

  • Laarni

I suspect the Americans voted for Obama to show the world that they are passed the colour of the skin. Hooray for them. But COMPETENCE doesn’t know colour. Vote the Hollywood Couple out of The White House out!

  • Wendywatkins

    That’s intelligent. NOT

  • higglty pigglty

What I love is how the Black community and its’ members quickly took up the idea of Obama as a Black Man. He isn’t…he is for lack of a better term coming to mind, a half breed…neither Black nor White, regardless of his skin color. In an earlier century he would have been ostracized by both the Black community and the White, an outcast without a people to call his own.
And Samuel Jackson is a prime example of why actors should stick to reading scripts and pretending to be someone, instead of getting involved in commenting on politics….

  • color shouldn’t matter

What kills me is that if a white celebrity said they voted for McCain because he was white, they would be burned alive. I am white and I voted for Obama because I thought he might do a better job. That is what it should be about. Not the color of someone’s skin.

  • tom

That is why most black people voted for him. That and there was really no one else worth while on the other side. Well actually I would have voted for Mccain but he committed election suicide by have Sarah Palin join him on the ticket.

I don’t agree at all. I would vote For Samuel L. Jackson for president any day of the week and twice on sunday. He sure the heck doesn’t look like me. I am Whitey McWhiterson. Blond hair, blue eyed, etc… There goes your theory Mr. Jackson. As to why I would vote for you? You are one crazy MFer and you would clean up Washington. You are the most brutally honest person I can recall. That is why I would vote for you.

And you are right, I voted for Clinton because he was white. I had lots of other choices, but saying that probably makes me a racist.

  • Denton Cockburn

Please don’t try to speak for what the black community would historically do. You’ve clearly shown you have no idea what you’re talking about.

  • Denton Cockburn

While I agree with what you’re saying, there’s one thing being missed. He was simply a first, a lot of people find that exciting. A lot of people would have voted for a midget, because that would be the first one. It’s only insulting to some people because Samuel also happens to be black. People can vote based on anything they want, it’s the sad truth about democracy.

As to his other statements, his statement about everyone else voting on race is clearly stupid, because then Obama would have had no chance. The part about politicians all being liars is spot on though.

  • Lindsey

That just shows how ignorant he is.

  • Denton Cockburn

You do know that since the 60s black people have voted 88+% for the democrat right (Kerry got something like 92%!)?
I find it amazing how many Americans forget that. Stop trying to paint black Americans for a black democrat as racialists, when they’ve long voted for any democrat.

  • Denton Cockburn

I love your comment sir, well played :)

  • Ben

Well I can’t wait for Samuel to run cause I’m a moron,so I’m sure gonna vote for him.

  • Brit

Am I the only one that imagined him yelling what he said..?

Samuel Jackson is a very intense actor… his acting skills are in essense what he’s about… being real! Honesty is an added blessing that he chooses to use and appreciate. RUN FOR PRESIDENT MR. JACKSON!

  • Chris R

He was a racist…he admitted it dude. You do something strictly because of race and not on the ability it’s racist. A white person would have been crucified because of a statement like this.

Personally I don’t really care. I think it’s natural to do so, but just don’t get your panties in a bunch when it happens to a white American if it’s ok for Samuel to do it.

  • Anonymous

Damn and I thought Samuel Jackson was smart because he plays smart people. Just goes to show how wrong I was.

  • http://twitter.com/Kevlar_Vest John

Absolutely pathetic, Mr. Jackson. Your admission goes counter to MLK’s admonition that people should be “judged on the content of their character” and not the color of their skin. You’ve basically admitted that your political choice was a vapid one based solely on aesthetic reasons. Pathetic.

  • Msmonfort

Get a life, who are you to say anything about Mr. Jackson? If you read the article you would know that there was more to his choice than that. He could have said he voted for President Obama because he was the democrat in the race I hear no regret. Stop being a sore loser. Loser!!! Your horse lost the race. Hee hee I love my President, Obama.
