Samuel L. Jackson received the Lifetime Achievement Award at Sunday’s 2016 BET Awards. Check out the video below!

Spike Lee led the presentation, recalling how he first met Jackson at college in 1975. The filmmaker went on to gush of his longtime friend, “He’s one of the greatest actors on this God’s planet… Sam is the hardest-working man in show business.” And in a taped tribute, Jackson was feted by the likes of George Lucas and Quentin Tarantino, alongside a montage of the actor’s iconic movie clips.

Jackson then took the stage to a standing ovation after Lee deemed him a “bad, bad, bad motherf*cker.” The star said he didn’t know he could be “this” as a child growing up in “segregated Tennessee.” He admitted he was “nervous” and his voice was “shaking,” and gave moving shout-outs to the relatives he had in attendance. Jackson also thanked, “Anybody who’s ever bought a ticket, a video, a DVD with my ass in it.”

Jackson was announced as this year’s honoree last Monday, with a press release touting his more than 100 film roles. Both an Oscar and Golden Globe nominee, he’ll be back on the big screen this Friday with The Legend Of Tarzan. Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children will follow this fall.

Jackson is a previous BET Awards host, having emceed the 2012 ceremony. That year, it was Maze that received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Recent honorees also include Charlie Wilson (2013), Lionel Richie (2014), and Smokey Robinson (2015). Jackson is actually the first non-musician to earn the award.
