Sam Smith To Undergo Surgery On Vocal Cords, Cancels More Concerts
Sam Smith has to undergo surgery to repair damage to his vocal cords. The singer made the announcement on Thursday on his Facebook page, one week after he revealed he had suffered a vocal hemorrhage.
“I am very upset to announce I have been battling to get my vocal cords better the last 10 days but unfortunately they haven’t recovered and I am going to need surgery,” posted Smith. He continued, “I’m so gutted to be missing all the shows and events I was meant to be playing at. The doctors say I will be back in 6-8 weeks and I cannot wait to sing for you all soon.”
On Instagram, Smith added that he already booked the surgery for next week, and was starting to get nervous about the operation. “But by doing this in 8 weeks time I’m gonna be able to sing like never before so it’s worth it. I am so sorry to all,” he wrote. “Dreading the next month thou, I can’t speak for THREE WEEKS after the op.”
Because of the surgery and the recovery time, Smith said he’s been forced to cancel his upcoming shows in Tokyo, France and the Philippines, but he’s still scheduled to perform shows in the U.K., France, Switzerland, Portugal, Ireland, Germany, and the United States later this summer. As Gossip Cop reported, Smith first canceled some shows last week, after he was told by doctors that he needed to take some time off from performing and rest his voice in order for the vocal issues to heal. We’ll have updates.
