Sam Smith Diss Ariana Grande

Clueless webloid HollywoodLife took a break from making up stories about Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez on Tuesday to make up a feud between Sam Smith and singers including Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift. Because that’s the kind of thing HollywoodLife does.

Smith spoke with Chaka Khan for a V magazine interview. He’s quoted as saying of young music stars, “Even when you meet them — I won’t name names — but some of these pop stars are just awful. And they have not even had half the success that you’ve had and yet you’re so humble and kind.” That’s what Smith said. He deliberately named no one. There is no controversy here.

Enter HollywoodLife. Here’s the site’s headline: “Sam Smith Says Today’s Pop Stars Are ‘Awful’: Dissing Miley Cyrus & Ariana Grande?” Because it wants to link as many names as possible to this supposed “diss,” here’s HollywoodLife’s poll: “Who do you think Sam’s jab is aimed at? Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez?”

Oh, and here’s the webloid’s title for its post: “Sam Smith’s Pop Star Diss: Calling Out Taylor Swift & Ariana Grande?” Now the blog has managed to name FOUR different people, when Smith himself deliberately named NO ONE.

Interestingly, the person HollywoodLife seems to focus on most is Grande. Which is hilarious, because back in September, Smith tweeted, “Listening to this @ArianaGrande album. Holy sh*t it’s good.” Wow, sounds like he really hates her.

Basically, Smith made a broad comment about “pop stars,” and HollywoodLife blindly speculated about four possible targets for his “diss” in order to trick people into clicking on the story. It’s the kind of irresponsible, desperate click bait the site has mastered.
