Busting bad dish!

Sacha Baron Cohen as ‘The Dictator’

PHOTO

(Paramount)

The first photo of Sacha Baron Cohen in costume as The Dictator has surfaced.

According to Paramount, “The film tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed.”

The movie is inspired by Zabibah and the King, a book supposedly written by Saddam Hussein about a monarch in the Middle East.

In the film, Cohen plays both the dictator and a lookalike goat herder who replaces him.

It’s directed by Larry Charles, the guy behind Cohen’s hits Borat and Bruno.

The Dictator is scheduled for a May 2012 release.

Can you define “supposedly?” Do you mean, he said he wrote it, but maybe he had a ghost writer? Or, people suspect that he actually wrote it under a nom de plume? Or, someone else wrote it and claimed that Hussein wrote it? Or that it is clearly written by someone else but is purportedly written by him as part of a joke or something? Or…???

Didn’t Charlie Chaplin do this already? Why doesn’t Cohen just admit he’s ripped off one of the most classic films of all time and be done with it.

Maybe S.B. Cohen is putting a different spin than C. Chaplin’s “Great Dictator” I mean this is the “tragic” tale of a dictator whose motivation is that democracy never comes to his beloved dictatorship. At least that’s my understanding of this upcoming movie. I just it does much better in the box office and with the movie critics than that oustanding mess “Bruno” OTOH that certainly isn’t saying much
