Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds have split.

“After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage,” says the couple in a statement.

“We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”

Sources cite “distance” as the reason for the breakup.

The couple announced their engagement in May 2008 and wed that September in Reynolds’ native Canada.
