Ryan Lochte “Dancing With The Stars” Protesters Fined $20,000
The protesters who crashed “Dancing with the Stars” last year to call out Ryan Lochte will pay a $20,000 fine to avoid facing possible jail time.
As Gossip Cop reported, Lochte’s debut “Dancing with the Stars” performance last September was interrupted by two men protesting his alleged behavior in Rio, where he lied about being robbed at gunpoint. During the live broadcast, Lochte and partner Cheryl Burke were standing with host Tom Bergeron to get feedback from the judges when the guys ran on to the dance floor. Security immediately stepped in and carted the men away, and additional protesters in the audience were also kicked out.
The protesters, who were arrested and charged with misdemeanor trespassing, later said in an interview that Lochte “embarrassed Americans” when he greatly exaggerated what happened while he was in Brazil for the Olympics. One of the men, Barzeen Soroudi, said, “This was our form of protest against that,” while his accomplice, Sam Satoodeh, insisted, “Lochte is a liar, a coward, and under Brazilian law, a criminal.”
Now roughly six months later, the men are acknowledging their own wrongdoing. According to TMZ, Soroudi and Satoodeh worked with the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office to reach a civil compromise. They will pay $20,000 to “DWTS” producers, BBC Worldwide Productions, and CBS Television City, where the ABC series is filmed. In return, the criminal charges against them will be dropped..
Soroudi and Satoodeh could have been sentenced to half a year behind bars had the case gone to trial. It doesn’t seem Lochte or Burke will be compensated in any way for the on-stage fright. It was the first time in “Dancing with the Stars” history that such an incident went down.
