Ryan Lochte ‘Ellen DeGeneres’ Video: Swimming Suspension ‘Heartbreaking’
Ryan Lochte addresses his suspension from swimming in an “Ellen DeGeneres Show” interview scheduled to air on Monday. Check out the video below.
As Gossip Cop reported, Lochte was suspended from swimming for 10 months on Thursday, part of his punishment for his Rio “robbery” scandal. That same day, he taped an appearance on DeGeneres’ talk show. And though he was on the program to promote his upcoming stint on “Dancing with the Stars,” he was, of course, asked about the Olympic controversy.
“I’ve been swimming my entire life. I’ve never taken a break. And for someone telling me that I can’t do something that I’ve been doing my entire life, I mean, it’s heartbreaking and it stinks,” he tells DeGeneres with “DWTS” partner Cheryl Burke by his side.
Lochte insists, “I definitely know there’s so much I want to accomplish in the sport of swimming, so I do know that I’m still gonna be training, and when I do come back, I’m going to be a better swimmer and a better person.” He also confirms reaching out to Michael Phelps for advice, noting, “he hit a low point in his life and he bounced back from it.”
“I knew his answer was going to be really honest, just because of our relationship over the years,” Lochte says. “He said, ‘It’s not what you did; it’s what you do now that will shape who you are.’ I took that to heart, and you know, that’s what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna better myself, make sure I don’t make those mistakes and become a better person.” Watch below.
