Ryan Gosling Golden Globes Video: Thanks Eva Mendes, Dedicates Award To Her Brother
Gosling won Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for La La Land. The star began his acceptance speech by joking that they awarded the wrong “Ryan,” a nod to Ryan Reynolds, who was nominated in the same category for Deadpool. Gosling then thanked co-star Emma Stone and director Damien Chazelle, and did a bit about cutting up the trophy to share it.
But then he got very serious. Gosling didn’t mention Mendes by name, but referred to “my lady,” saying that while he was doing the movie, she was “raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer.” If it wasn’t for her taking care of all of that, the actor said, “surely” someone else would be standing on that stage.
“So, sweetheart,” Gosling said, looking into the camera, “thank you. And to my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you. And if I may, I’d like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendes.”
As Gossip Cop reported, Mendes’ brother died at age 53 last April. Mendes did not attend the Golden Globes ceremony with Gosling, who sat with Stone. Over the last few months, Gossip Cop has busted a number of tabloid stories falsely claiming Mendes, Gosling and Stone are in a love triangle.
Clearly, as we’ve said, that’s not the case. Check out the video of Gosling below.
