Ryan Gosling Booed At Cannes Premiere For Directorial Debut Lost River
Ryan Gosling was booed at the Cannes Film Festival for his directorial debut, Lost River.
After having to endure the theatergoers’ jeers, Gosling was given mostly scathing reviews from critics who slammed the film, which he also wrote.
“If a $200 haircut and $900 shades were given lots of money to defecate on Detroit, the result would be Ryan Gosling’s directing debut,” Grantland’s Westley Morris tweeted after the film’s premiere on Tuesday.
Variety’s film critic Justin Chang similarly tweeted, “Hey girl, wanna see a terrible movie? Ryan Gosling’s directing debut LOST RIVER lands with a thud in
“Had Terrence Malick and David Lynch somehow conceived an artistic love-child together, only to see it get kidnapped, strangled and repeatedly kicked in the face by Nicolas Winding Refn, the results might look and sound something like ‘Lost River,'” Chang later wrote in his review for Variety.
The film, which stars Christina Hendricks and Eva Mendes, is about a single mother who is caught in a dark underworld, while her son finds a road to an underwater utopia.
