Russell Brand has accepted a large payment from The Sun on Sunday for the newspaper’s false allegation that he cheated on girlfriend Jemima Khan.

Last November, the outlet published an inaccurate report claiming Brand was having an affair with model Sophie Coady, then initially refused to remove the article or publish an apology.

Brand publicly slammed The Sun for its lies, linking the cheating story to the paper’s other failures of journalism, calling it “grime and scum.”

Now, the parties have reached a settlement.

Brand’s attorney says the publisher “now accepts” that the allegations were “totally untrue and defamatory and that these claims should never have been published.”

The actor-comedian was paid “substantial” libel damages and reimbursed for his legal costs, and the paper’s publisher has formally apologized.

Brand indicated that he’ll put the funds toward “what he considers to be diverse, just and decent causes.”
