Rupert Boneham, who won $1 million when he was voted the champ of “Survivor: All-Stars” in 2004, would like to win the votes in Indiana’s next gubernatorial race.
On Saturday, Boneham announced he’s running for governor of Indiana as a Libertarian candidate, noting he’s “not beholden to any special interests.”
In a statement, the bushy bearded, tie-dye shirt wearing reality star said, “I have only one interest: Empowering Hoosiers to give back to their communities. If the government puts up roadblocks, then they should be repealed.”
He added, ”Hoosiers have consistently voted in professional politicians and look at the results. Hoosiers should have a different choice in 2012.”
Not long after Boneham won “Survivor,” he donated some of the $1 million winnings to Rupert’s Kids, his Indianapolis-based charity which offers mentoring and job-training to young people at risk.
Boneham will be up against Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Pence and former Democratic Indiana House Speaker John Gregg for the governorship.
