Katy Perry and Russell Brandhave secretly recorded a duet at a legendary studio in Los Angeles,” reports The Sun more than 5,400 miles away.

Somehow or another, though the “source” was in L.A., the story didn’t leak out there – at all – but instead was first published in London (although many sources stateside picked it up). Anyway, according to that “source,” Brand was “just messing around in the studio with Katy. He was pretending to sing into the mic and started reciting the [1871 Edward Lear] poem, The Owl And The Pussycat.”

Still with this?

OK, so the “source” went on to say that Brand “has an amazing delivery. Katy blushed at the line, ‘O let us be married, too long have we tarried’ then joined in, singing a refrain to Russell’s speech… That’s when it dawned on everyone. It was actually really good. With work, it could be a really interesting track.”

Or, it could not be.

Time for Gossip Cop.

We spent far more time than we wanted to looking into this, and we found out that the duet tale is…

Not true.

However, if you want to hear Perry sing, buy one of her albums. And if you want to hear Brand rock it out, he’s supposed to be great as a rock star in the upcoming film, “Get Him to the Greek.”

In the meantime, as to the rumor of them recording a musical duet of “The Owl and the Pussycat” — don’t give it a hoot.
